Hosting Massive Geodata Made Easier

Memory requirements for geodata are continually increasing. To meet this growing demand, virtualcitySYSTEMS, a Berlin-based systems house, has developed a new hosting solution which it will unveil at INTERGEO.

virtualcityCLOUD is a high-performance online platform that provides combinations of 2D and 3D data as well as oblique aerial images.

This solution caters to municipalities, surveying offices and urban planners. They provide raw data and virtualcitySYSTEMS generates an online model. The hosting solution incorporates different types of geodata in its online map according to the municipality design, while also offering various measurement and planning tools. The municipality receives a web address where the ready-made viewer application is available to use on all current equipment.

This cloud-based solution is extremely versatile and data can be updated in no time at all: Storage requirements and processing power can be quickly tailored to the project. In addition, the service provider guarantees a high level of service availability and accurate cost planning.

For its cloud provider, the company uses Amazon Web Services, a service prized for its scalability and certified security. Data protection is a top priority for virtualcitySYSTEMS. High-resolution image data and geodata need to be handled as personal data according to official guidelines on geodata and geoservices. As such, all technical and organisational measures have been carefully developed in order to meet the data protection requirements in the German Data Protection Act.
