Bluesky 3D Models Help Anglian Water Improve Infrastructure

Highly detailed 3D models, derived from the latest aerial photography, are helping Anglian Water design, build and communicate major infrastructure and non-infrastructure asset projects across the east of England. Created by aerial mapping company Bluesky, the 3D models are being used by the @one Alliance, a collaboration of consultants and contractors working together to deliver more than half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. The models are being used to create 3D animations and fly-throughs that easily communicate potentially complex plans. Examples of projects where the Bluesky models have already been used by the @one Alliance include a £3m scheme... (read more)

Viametris Introduces vMS3D for Vehicles

Viametris, a leader in mobile scanning technology, has announced the introduction of their new mobile scanning system for vehicles, the vMS3D. The mobile mapping system is dedicated to outdoors, roads and urban areas utilising innovative technology for localisation not dependent upon GNSS receivers and poor GNSS reception quality is no longer a problem. This technology is no longer tightly dependent on GNSS receivers. Based on unique technology, and years of expertise in indoor mobile scanning, Viametris has become a leading expert in mobile scanning in GNSS-denied environments. Mobile mapping systems allow rapid measurements, faster than any other technologies. But one main... (read more)

ClearEdge3D Launches Construction Verification Software

ClearEdge3D has released its newest software solution, Verity 1.0, which verifies the accuracy of new construction against design/fabrication models, giving general contractors unprecedented insight into their construction projects. The software analyses laser scan point cloud data of the as-built construction against the design/fabrication models, identifying variances, missing elements or other potentially costly construction errors. The variance data and corrected model can be exported to Navisworks for as-built clash detection and further analysis. Poorly constructed and out-of-tolerance work is a massive problem in the construction industry, typically accounting for 5 percent of a project’s cost. Verity is developed to significantly reduce... Monitoring, Mapping, and Modelling Saltmarsh

The UAV Way
Coastal and estuarine saltmarsh has long been recognised as having key physical, ecological, and recreational value, acting as sediment and nutrient traps and as natural coastal protection structures functioning as protective buffers between the land and sea. Additionally, they are important areas for shelter, feeding and breeding of diverse forms of wildlife (Doody, 2007). Recent work suggests that saltmarshes are particularly good for demonstrating how the coast can change in response to environmental influences, including relative sea level rise. The pace of current Scottish relative sea level rise (Rennie and Hansom, 2011) may lead to inundation of coastal saltmarsh, with... (read more)
