3D Mapping Cloud Supports 3D Models and Hybrid Resources

Orbit GT has released a version 19.4 of its SaaS solution 3DMapping.cloud – introducing 3D Models support and Hybrid Resources. “As 3D Mapping and BIM grow closer, we now added support for 3D Models in 3dmapping.cloud“, says Peter Bonne, CEO of Orbit GT. “Customers can now create a 3D model library, organize categories, and blend these in any 3D or image view.” The other new feature is Hybrid Resources. These resources in 3D Mapping Cloud are to be used as any other resource, however, the data is stored in a different environment, e.g. Orbit GT’s 3DM Publisher (for on-premise installations). Hybrid Resources... LINZ support for 3D Mapping of Northland

LINZ is partnering in a project to map Northland using Lidar – a method for collecting 3D data on our land and its features. Uses for Lidar data include flood risk assessment, urban planning, forestry and precision agriculture. Improved elevation data is major contributor to LINZ strategic initiatives to improve resilience to natural events and increase the use of geographic information. Visualisation of Topographical Features Improves Functionality
The use of panoramic images has become widespread in many governmental agencies and companies, especially in the last couple of years. It is possible to integrate 2D spatial features (e.g. building outlines, parcels, utilities etc.) with panoramic images to enable the proper visualisation of topographical features in a 3D environment. Verbree et al. (2004) have shown the advantages of augmenting underground conduit pipes and cables into panoramic images, thus allowing better visualisation of otherwise invisible features.
