Bluesky Captures Ultra-high-resolution Aerial Survey of Dublin

Aerial mapping company Bluesky Ireland has captured the first-ever 12.5cm-resolution aerial photography coverage of the whole of the Greater Dublin area. Covering a total of 1,850 square kilometres, the imagery is so detailed that road markings, street furniture and property boundaries are all easily visible and is accurate for use in GIS and desktop mapping software. In another first for the Republic of Ireland, the data is also being made available through a dedicated web mapping service (WMS), allowing users to stream the imagery directly into their GIS or other compatible software. “This is a first for Ireland and is a... UAS Platforms the Future of Successful Aerial Image Capture & Modelling

UAS (Unmanned Airborne Systems) are rapidly becoming a valuable source of data for inspection, surveillance, mapping and 3D modelling projects. Investment in the commercial UAS industry - estimated to increase by US$3.5 billion by 2024 – reveals the potential for UAS to aid or replace traditional methods of data collection. The catalyst for the high rate of UAS adoption is primarily the technological developments in microprocessor architecture and the falling costs of the manufacturing process. Even consumer-grade UAS - available for less than £1,000 – now feature sophisticated Internal Measurement Units (IMUs), GPS- and GLONASS-capable GNSS receivers, stabilised gimbals, and... (read more)

Aerial Photomaps Reveal Secrets to Improving Farm Management

Ultra-high-resolution aerial photography and 3D landscape models from Bluesky are helping Outfield Technologies to develop innovative image recognition techniques to improve agricultural land management and crop production. In addition to the pioneering research project, the Bluesky data is also providing estate managers with up-to-date and accurate mapping for subsidy applications, planning proposals and corroboration of existing data and reports. Supported by the Eastern Agri-Tech Growth Initiative, with funding from the UK Government Local Growth Fund, Outfield commissioned Bluesky to capture 7,000 hectares of 5cm-resolution photography. Covering farmed land, environmental focus areas and woodland on a large estate in East Anglia,... (read more)
