System Monitoring Now Even Simpler with service.monitor

service.monitor 3.3 simplifies monitoring services in a GIS infrastructure. This version of this web application offers full multi-client and distribution capability and, in particular, features comprehensive support for users while they are creating monitoring jobs. It should be stressed that in this context, operating procedures have been considerably simplified while the basic architecture has also been updated. Creating and configuring monitoring jobs is now simpler than ever. The user interface assists in creating jobs that are technically appropriate and service specific. It does so by employing, among other things, dynamic example queries and an option to harvest services of an... (read more)

Maptek Invests with PETRA Data Science

Maptek and PETRA Data Science have established a partnership which will enable seamless value chain optimization and simulation from resource models through to metal produced. Mining companies will be able, for the first time, to use millions of tonnes of their historical performance and resource metadata for dynamic optimization. “Whether you are looking at their 3D virtual environments for geological modelling and mine optimization, or long-range laser scanners for 3D mapping and monitoring, every aspect is custom built for mining. Any true digital twin in mining needs to consider geology,” said a PETRA spokesperson. “Our partnership with Maptek provides PETRA... (read more)

Development of a Symbol System for Disaster Management

Spatial information plays a key role in disaster management. Upon occurrence of an emergency situation, crisis management actors need specialised maps to give them a clear idea of the emergency, localisation, distribution and characteristics. Effective representation of spatial information can be achieved by means of graphical symbols. Silvia Marinova describes how a symbol system should be associative and quickly perceived by map users even without the use of a legend, especially in an emergency. A number of agencies and organisations related to disaster protection develop databases, geo-portals and cartographic products for crisis management and their own standards for symbols. In...
