Leica Releases TruView Cloud Service

Leica has released its TruView Cloud Service  allowing users to take reality project data gathered by any kind of sensor and—simply by logging into a Cyclone Cloud account—publish it for remote access and use in BIM, GIS, and CAD applications. Though TruView Cloud is designed to offer a very simple upload operation, it also includes much more granular security controls, enabling administrators to set permissions and restrict data access as necessary for different stakeholder communities. From there, stakeholders can use it to view, measure, and manipulate the data anywhere, anytime, and on any device. As Faheem Khan, vice-president of business development explains,... (read more)

DroneDeploy Releases Cloud Photogrammetry Software

DroneDeploy, a drone software platform with the largest drone data repository in the world, has announced the release of Map Engine - the industry’s first machine learning-driven photogrammetry software. The release came after a successful beta period where it processed 30K maps per month for more than 4,000 clients across 180 countries. Map Engine generates high-resolution maps and 3D models from drone imagery collected in the construction, energy, agriculture, and surveying sectors. The new processing engine leverages the latest cloud infrastructure and machine learning technology to deliver high-quality results and help customers reduce costs. "Map Engine tracks billions of points... (read more)

Esri and Alibaba Cloud Bring Location Intelligence Technology to Cloud Users

Esri, the global leader in spatial analytics, has announced that it has entered into a collaborative agreement with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of the Alibaba Group. The agreement will enable both organisations to deliver enhanced options to customers seeking to implement their Esri technology on Alibaba Cloud. Esri President and Founder, Jack Dangermond, described the agreement as both a recognition of successful implementations and a shared belief that location intelligence in cloud infrastructure was pivotal to addressing customers’ needs and solving real-world problems – especially those that need scalable computing, storage, and networking capabilities. “We’ve seen our users... Apple Furthers Point Cloud Feature Recognition

In a paper released on arXiv, Apple engineers Yin Zhou and Oncel Tuzel have detailed an end-to-end deep neural network solution for accurate feature recognition in point clouds. One way we currently perform feature recognition is to project the point cloud into a perspective view and apply image-based feature recognition techniques. Another approach is to rasterise the point clouds into a 3D voxel grid, and encode the features by hand (think of a voxel as a pixel in three dimensions instead of two). The first approach loses us some valuable depth information, and both create an extra step. According to the... (read more)

Moving UXO Classification to the Cloud

Geosoft is partnering with Acorn Science and Innovation to create a cloud-based technology solution for unexploded ordnance (UXO) classification projects. The three-year project, funded by the US Department of Defense’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), will deliver a cloud prototype for classifying buried metal as either UXO or non-hazardous clutter based on the analysis of electromagnetic induction (EMI) data. UXO classification requires several players working in different locations, currently on personal computers. This includes field technicians, data processors, data analysts, government project managers and geophysicists, and regulators. Data collected using advanced electromagnetic (EM) sensors in the field are sent... (read more)

MGISS Accepted as G-Cloud Supplier

MGISS has been accepted as an official supplier of cloud-based services via the UK Government’s G-Cloud 10 framework. G-Cloud was launched in 2012 as an initiative targeted at making procurement in the public-sector simpler for technology providers that use cloud-based services. It consists of a series of framework agreements with suppliers, from which public sector organisations can buy services without needing to run a full tender or competition procurement process. MGISS independently advise on the smarter use of data, technology and digital transformation. This allows organisations in the Infrastructure, Environment and Energy sectors manage their assets more efficiently. Clients benefit... (read more)

Turnkey GIS Solutions in the Cloud

African GIS to 3D GIS in the Cloud
For the past fifteen years Sivan Design, a privately held GIS solutions provider from Israel, has concentrated on developing an approach which combines GIS, CAD and 3D technologies to produce software and services. The company quickly realised that this approach, combined with the knowhow it has accumulated in the process, allowed it to offer turnkey GIS solutions encompassing the entire range of GIS needs required by any country on a national scale. Sivan Design is now releasing its newest version of a coming trend in 3D GIS software: 3D-GIS in the Cloud. In 1999 the company released its first professional... (read more)
