GEO-10 Conference Programme

The organisers of GEO-10 have announced an exciting two-day conference programme. Grounded in the three m's - measuring, modelling and managing (and applying) geospatial information - the M3 conference will feature daily keynote presentations from respected geostrategy consultant and former MD of MapInfo UK Steven Feldman and Michael Nicholson, chairman of intelligent addressing and the driving force behind the commercial development of the National Land and Property Gazetteer. The M3 conference programme will also feature papers on 3D Mapping and GIS, Open Systems and Open Data and GIS and other desperate measures that save lives.

GEO-10 takes place on the 24th and 25th March 2010 at the Ricoh Arena Coventry and combines a full two days of conference with the UK's only dedicated national geospatial trade exhibition, a programme of free, show floor seminars, live product demos and of networking opportunities.

The m3 conference at GEO-10 will open with a plenary session from keynote speaker and well known giscussions blogger Steven Feldman. Delegates can then choose between the Geomatics stream or the GI stream with topics including ‘Looking ahead to 2015 and beyond' a summary of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) recent industry prediction exercise and 3D scanning comes of age how high accuracy kinematic 3D scanning is being used for highway mapping.

After a VIP lunch in the exhibition hall the programme continues with papers including ‘Open Source: Open Sesame - or a can of worms?' a look at the opportunities and challenges presented by Open Source technologies and ‘GIS and other desperate measures that saved lives in Haiti' a presentation by MapAction personnel. There will be a fundraising event to support the work of MapAction during the Gala Evening.

Day two offers the delegate more choices, including a plenary session keynote presentation from Michael Nicholson entitled ‘What's it worth to know where you are going?' and other papers including ‘Real opportunities for GI', ‘New mapping sources' and ‘Navigating the 7 c's - Crown Copyright - Creative Commons - Computing in the Cloud - Co-operation'.

"The aim of the conference programme is to bridge the gap between those engaged in geospatial data collection and those developing or using commercial applications for geospatial data so that both sides can learn from each other," commented Stephen Booth of PV Publications, organisers of the event and publishers of Geomatics World, GIS Professional and Engineering Surveying Showcase. "Delegates are encouraged to break out of their traditional specialisms and mix and match between the two streams to suit their own schedule and personal CPD plan."
