Placement Software for Port-au-Prince Street Atlas

MapText has provided complimentary label placement solutions to MyMapbook.com which enabled MyMapbook to quickly complete a street atlas to aid international relief efforts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The detailed street maps cover 21 pages of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, a total of over 250 square kilometres (100 square miles). Each page covers 12 square kilometres and is mapped at 1:16,000 (one inch = 1920 ft). Major landmarks, major roads, minor roads and neighborhoods are included on each detailed map page. Looking up streets is easy by using the alphabetical index.

The GIS map data used for this atlas was obtained from Open Street Maps, which is the standard map base for Haiti relief efforts. Relief International, Los Angeles, CA, contributed user-based guidance on the project.

"We are glad to be able to help the international relief efforts that are going on in Haiti now. Our contribution is modest but it proves the great importance of fast and reliable label placement technology when maps need to be created in a hurry," Shailesh Chanekar of MapText, Inc. commented.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to use our skills to make a small contribution to the many relief workers who are helping the people of Haiti. We know how important it is to maximize the efficiency of relief resources and we hope these maps will help the medical teams navigate efficiently on unfamiliar territory," said Glen Jansma of Mymapbook.com, LLC.
