Russian Working Group for Remote Sensing Legislation

Current developments in, and future perspectives for, Earth remote sensing technology were discussed in the State Duma, part of the Russian Parliament, on 22 October 2012. The participants at the thematic round table also examined the need for improvements to legislation in this field.

The round table with the theme ‘Legislative regulation of Earth remote sensing technology applications’ was organised and held by the State Duma Committee on Science and Science-intensive Technologies together with the Association of Suppliers and Users of Space Imagery Data, ‘Earth from Space’.

The round-table participants particularly focused on the challenges of providing legislative support to governmental authorities, municipal governments, enterprises and institutions, scientific and research organisations, higher education institutions, public organisations in the use of Earth remote sensing technologies, and agreed on the creation of a working group for the development of remote sensing legislation in Russia.
