SuperMap GIS Conference 2011 is a Resounding Success

This year's SuperMap GIS Conference 2011 (SGC 2011), with its theme 'Embrace the GeoCloud Innovation', drew to a close on Saturday, 17th September 2011 in Beijing after three days. Representing a showcase of the latest SuperMap GIS technologies, various success stories and mature solutions in different industries, SGC 2011 proved a great success, attracting around 4,000 conference participants.  

As one of the biggest geospatial events in China, SGC 2011 was held by SuperMap Software and supported by scores of Chinese government agencies, associations and institutes, including National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information, Ministry of Water Resources, China Meteorological Administration, National Bureau of Statistics of China, etc. It was the ninth session of SGC since the first one was held in 2000.

 

During the first day's plenary session, Dr. Zhong Ershun, Board Chairman of SuperMap, gave a keynote speech on 'Innovate GIS - Embrace Future' in the opening ceremony. After the speech, SuperMap announced the release of SuperMap GIS 6R (2012) and SuperMap GIS Cloud Service Portal. As the latest version of SuperMap GIS 6R series, SuperMap GIS 6R (2012) has made great breakthroughs in supporting open cloud services, seamless integration of 2D and 3D GIS, easy application integration and service aggregation capabilities, smooth displaying on the client side, strong data processing capacity on desktop, and innovative GIS application development models. It provides more cloud-enabled choices and supports for clients in this new Cloud Era. It is another revolutionary technology from SuperMap after Cross-platform GIS, Service GIS and Realspace GIS. It also includes the first real 64-bit Service GIS Platform software - SuperMap iServer 6R (2012) - in the world. SuperMap GIS Cloud Service Portal has been created to enable both developers and clients to obtain Geo-PAAS, Geo-DAAS and Geo-SAAS. Several government officials, academics and professionals attended the release ceremony and gave welcome speeches.

 

As a client representative, Mr. Weigang Yang, Deputy Chairman of Hunan Province and Deputy Director-General of Land and Resources Bureau of Hunan Province, gave a themed lecture on 'Digital Human Geospatial Framework Planning'. As an expert on Cloud Computing, Mr. Deyi Li, academic of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, gave a themed lecture on 'Cloud Computing: to Make GIS Fly'. Mr. Guanfu Song, CEO of SuperMap, and some other senior executives subsequently gave the details of SuperMap GIS technology and application development and prospects in Cloud Era, SuperMap GIS Cloud Service, and new features of SuperMap GIS 6R (2012). Mr. Hayashi, CEO of SuperMap Japan Co., Ltd., delivered a speech on 'Japanese GIS Industry and SuperMap GIS Application'.

 

From 16th to 17th September 2011, four SuperMap GIS Technical Seminars and eight SuperMap GIS Solutions Seminars were held with over 120 enlightening presentations, where a variety of hot GIS topics were covered, including Integrated 2D with 3D GIS, Service GIS in Cloud Era, Digital City & GIS Sharing Platform, Digital Land & Real Estate, Aerial Survey & Remote Sensing, Social and Economic Comprehensive Development, Natural Resources Management, Transportation and Location Based Service, Emergency Management & Disaster, Prevention and Mitigation, Facility Management, Service GIS in Cloud Era, etc.

 

The conference was accompanied by a successful exhibition. SuperMap and its partners, including HP, Epson, Trimble, Ashtech, etc., showcased the latest SuperMap GIS 6R products, applications and integration solutions with other relevant software and hardware. Kinect motion sensor and multi-touch devices as well as the interaction system with 3D GIS software drew a lot of interest from the participants. Meanwhile, a SuperMap Partner Conference was held. Since 15th September marked the 'GIS Festival' of the GIS industry in China, a series of activities were launched on-site, such as book signings, recruitment by famous geospatial enterprises and free taking of photographs, to name but a few.

 

The next session of SuperMap GIS Conference will be held in 2013.
